Shawnetta Reece, 40, from Blairsville, Georgia, is accused of molesting the boy in 2013 and no longer works as a teacher.
According to police, the teacher embarked on a relationship with the boy in 2013.
She is believed to have met the pupil at the school and allegedly molested him from the eighth to the ninth grade. Even though the alleged assault took place three years ago, police only started to investigate recently.
Union County Police were helped by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation when they were told a teacher was having a relationship with a pupil at the school.
Reece does not work at Union County Middle School anymore, and her LinkedIn and Twitter accounts have been deleted. When police finish their investigation, they will present their findings to the Enotah Judicial Circuit district attorney for prosecution.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement: “The student was moving from the 8th grade into the 9th grade during this time.
“As a result of the investigation, Reece has been arrested for child molestation and sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.”
When I first saw the story, looked at our girls name (Shawnetta) and saw that the incident took place in the great teacher-sex scandal state of Georgia, I couldn't help but feel a little let down by my own instincts about certain characters and aspects of the story. Never judge a book, never insinuate. The world is a different place now and we need to come to accept that certain stereotypes are outdated, and plain childish. Out goes the old and in comes the new, just like with teacher- sex scandals.
Shawnetta is 40-years old (36 during the incident period), and she is leaving the teaching profession on a high note. And, I must say, for forty, not a bad time to quit and go out with a bang.
Anyway, with that said, our friend Shawnetta has already so graciously contributed to our new blog series with her brave and daring acts as a Blairsville gym teacher. A female gym teacher that, at first glance, looks like Sarah Harding from Big Brother, teaching you how to play with your basketballs, while not dribbling too much onto the hardwood, is no contest for a 15-year-old male student.
What is so hard to understand, why is this such a shock? Ms Reece, the foxy shark that she is, knew that young boys are only interested in two things at that age: Sports....and Big Brother. And, our gurl Shawnetta also showed her expertise in committing to her professionalism in teacher-sex scandal etiquette: by picking the pre-ripened fruit; during the tender transitional seasonal period of 8th and 9th grade. Its amazing because, all assuming, this was Reece's first time; yet she appears to have pulled off a text-book transitional play, that only seasoned veterans on the roster of female-teacher sex scandals could only muster.
Even though this case is fresh out of the locker room, we still have to treat all parties with dignity and remember that this is, first and foremost, a love story. We can't take that away from them. At the end of the day, our gurl fell head-over knee highs for this teen and was probably tired of dating all the hot jocks in town and was looking for something more stable; teen boys usually like to hangout, play video games....and fantasize about banging their hot gym teachers. So this, on the books, looked like a safe play for Reece, right? Whatever the case, we should also address the harm to our male 'victim'. Poor kid, it will take years for him to recover from all the high-fives. Game over.
The Report Card:
Methodology: It's hard with these cases where very little info is given to the public. No texts, no recorded emails, no traces of the tryst. 'molestation', 'sex romp' what does it all mean, Basil? Handjerbies, blowjays, a half & half? We can only assume at this point that our gurl played, at the very least, some aggressive handball with her love interest. However, like all good athletes, we know that magic can happen both on and off the court. We hate to guess here, it's disappointing.

Integrity: Reece shows that she can put in the effort and that taking risks is a part of life. 18-year old's and men who fall into her age range is an easier pool to fish in than, oh, 15-year olds. The media and others may see 'criminal', but its hard to look past the label of 'hard worker'.
A-
Presentation/looks: We have to take what we can get, and most 40-year-olds don't have a prolific social media presence. So, Reece's pics are limited to the very blurry, unfiltered, and uninspired. But, I think we can all agree, that aside from her face, there has to be a rock'n bod below. She's a gym teacher. Sorry, was a gym teacher. For that, we cannot in good conscience give full marks.
